Loom Weavers

My mother and I

Virginia, my mother, lives in Buenos Aires. She has been a textile artist and weaver for more than 35 years. I was raised watching her weave and embroid, using different techniques and materials to create unique pieces of art for national and international exhibitions. Later in her carrer, she combined her love for native textiles and nature, raising llamas and sheep in the countryside, to produce wool and hand-wooven products: ponchos, blankets, pillows, throws and more.

Above all, my mother is a skillfull artisan. Devoted and patient. Recently, we have combined our expertise to create the ‘Pampa’ round pillows, she carefully wove in a circular handloom using 100% natural merino wool.

The Sachamama Project

SachaMama means ‘mother of the mountain’, and the mountain is the place where this group of women weave beautiful pieces of art. SachaMama weavers spin and dye sheep and llama wool in a completely handmade way. They know that the most beautiful pigments are those obtained from the roots, barks and resins of the forest.

The SachaMama project is born in Boquerón, Santiago de Estero, northern Argentina. The second largest forest area in South America. Here, in the midst of the great distances between the communities, the dirty roads and the lack of water for human consumption, live small groups of local communities and artisans with a great sense of solidarity, brotherhood and work spirit.
